  1. Ah, Wim, you healthy Dutchman! There’s a certain, impossible to escape, attraction to one’s bad‐for‐you childhood dishes. These layered casserole dishes made with prepared ingredients are classic 1940–1980s American middle‐ and working‐class cooking. They usually include cream of something soup (from a can) and either tater tots or prepackaged fried onion rings.
