  1. Ah, Wim, you healthy Dutchman! There’s a certain, impossible to escape, attraction to one’s bad-for-you childhood dishes. These layered casserole dishes made with prepared ingredients are classic 1940–1980s American middle- and working-class cooking. They usually include cream of something soup (from a can) and either tater tots or prepackaged fried onion rings.
